The city of Sarasota, which Osprey borders to the north, is known for its cultural events, from the opera, ballet, theater, symphony, and annual film festivals. Take in a performance at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Center or visit the Selby Botanical Gardens, the Ringling Museum, or St. Armand's Circle. Or bring the family to one of the many events nearby, including the Sarasota Blues Festival, Sarasota Medieval Fair, Thunder by the Bay or Taste of Sarasota.
Sarasota Florida has all the charm of a southern town with the conveniences of a big city. Recently, MONEY magazine and CNN/Money spent months looking for Great American towns, where one would want to raise children and celebrate life's milestones. Sarasota placed in the top 1100 towns in the nation for the title of Best Places to Live in 2005. Additionally, Sarasota was named one of the nation’s 15 “Most Livable Communities.”
Osprey offers residents a vast selection of attractions to enjoy, including Spanish Point, Oscar Scherer State Park and Lake Osprey. Spanish Point is the site where the Webb family settled, grew, packaged and shipped citrus crops to Key West. Today, visitors can see how oranges were packaged at the time in a rebuilt packing house as well as early pioneer life in the area.
Oscar Scherer State Park in Osprey offers a number of recreational activities, as well as a preserve of Florida's natural habitat and wildlife. For bicycle enthusiasts, the park offers 15 miles of trails, canoeing and a full camping facility. Fishing is also a favorite amongst residents at Lake Osprey. Inside the park, there is a three acre freshwater lake offering anglers a chance to catch bream, bluegill, largemouth bass and channel catfish. The lake also offers several picnic areas, a nature center and a small swimming beach. One can enjoy the floury white sands and turquoise waters of the nearby beaches, a zip around on water toys or a stroll on the waterfront at sunset. Osprey offers plenty of recreational activities to suit any mood.
Whether it's the diverse cultural and recreational opportunities, the friendly people or the beautiful weather, Osprey and the surrounding communities afford a quality of life second to none.
